Treadmill Review 2009

The followng is a synthesis of information provided from ConsurmerSearch.com. They, in turn, have sythensized reviews from multiple sources

Best Among Cheap Treadmills
Golds Gym 450
Few professional reviewers pay much attention to super-cheap treadmills, but TreadmillDoctor.com does rank the Gold’s Gym 450 alongside other models. TreadmillTips.com’s review doesn’t refer to any testing, but it does a better job outlining the Gold’s Gym 450’s features than TreadmillDoctor.com does. Nearly 400 users post mostly positive reviews for this treadmill at Walmart.com, but they often post soon after purchase, so these reviews don’t shed any light on the Gold’s Gym 450’s durability over the long term.
The Gold’s Gym 450 has one thing going for it, reviews say: It’s cheap. Experts find little else to praise about this treadmill, although one reviewer points out that it does include some nice features for a machine at this price point, such as a quick-set speed control and power incline. Reviews recommend the Gold’s Gym 450 more often than other under-$500 treadmills, such as the ProForm 380E (*est. $400), which has a slightly weaker motor and lower user weight limit. Owners say the Gold’s Gym 450 works well for walking, and the belt is both short and narrow. Experts are leery of this treadmill’s short warranty (5 years motor, 1 year frame, 90 days parts and labor). They are more likely to recommend spending a little more for a sturdier treadmill, such as the Gold’s Gym Maxx Crosswalk 650 (*est. $600).

Best-Value Treadmill for Walking
Golds Gym Maxx Crosswalk 650
Expert testers at TreadmillDoctor.com and Consumer Reports rate treadmills on several measures and then clearly rank the best models. TreadmillTalk.com’s review is based on other experts’ and users’ opinions, rather than on its own testing. The Gold’s Gym Maxx CrossWalk 650 gets plenty of user feedback at Walmart.com, giving some insight into how this treadmill performs for its owners.
The Gold’s Gym Maxx CrossWalk 650 is the least expensive treadmill that experts recommend with any enthusiasm. Unlike other budget treadmills, such as the Gold’s Gym 450 (*est. $375) — which reviews say probably won’t be especially durable — the Maxx CrossWalk 650 comes with a lifetime warranty on its frame and 25 years on its motor. Reviewers are impressed with upscale features such as adjustable cushioning and quick-set speed and incline controls. However, experts and users find fault with some features, such as the hand-grip heart rate monitor that fails to work properly in several reviews. The one-year parts-and-labor warranty is relatively short, and the Maxx CrossWalk 650 isn’t recommended as often as the more expensive Sole F63 (*est. $1,000) with its heftier warranty. Reviews also recommend the CrossWalk 650 only for walking, saying the 1.75-hp motor isn’t powerful enough for running.

Best Value for Walking and some jogging
Sole F63
TreadmillDoctor.com and Consumer Reports test the Sole F63, score it on several measures and rank it against other treadmills. Reviewers at TreadmillSensei.com, TreadmillTalk.com and About.com make only brief comparisons between the Sole F63 and other treadmills, and they do not mention testing the F63 themselves.
If you mostly walk or jog on your treadmill, reviews suggest you probably don’t need to spend more than $1,000. Experts are most likely to recommend the Sole F63, which has the best warranty in its price range (lifetime motor and frame; three years deck, electronics, belt and rollers; and one year labor). You won’t find a warranty like that on cheaper treadmills like the Gold’s Gym Maxx CrossWalk 650 (*est. $600), reviews say. However, if you plan to run a lot on your treadmill, critics say you may want to step up to the Sole F80 (*est. $1,500), which offers more speed, a more powerful motor and bigger rollers than the F63.

Best All-Around Treadmill
Sole F80
A variety of specialty treadmill-review websites, including TreadmillDoctor.com, TreadmillSensei.com, TreadmillTips.com and Treadmill-Ratings-Reviews.com, weigh in on the Sole F80, as do owners posting at Amazon.com. Unfortunately, Consumer Reports does not include this treadmill in its comparison tests, nor is it tested by Runner’s World.
All of the sources we consulted are in solid agreement about the Sole F80 folding treadmill, calling it the best treadmill in its price range. This machine has a generous 350-pound weight limit with big rollers that help reduce wear and tear. One especially credible reviewer praises the Sole F80’s hydraulically-assisted folding action, which makes it easy to store. Its belt is comfortably wide (20 inches) but only 55 inches long, so although the F80 is sturdy enough for running, reviews say tall runners may want to step up to the Sole F85 (*est. $1,750), which has a longer belt. The Sole F80’s warranty (lifetime motor, deck and frame; five years electronics, belt, rollers and labor; and two years in-home service) is one of the best at this price. If you don’t think you’ll do much (or any) running on your treadmill, reviews say you probably don’t need to spend so much. Consider the Sole F63 (*est. $1,000) or Gold’s Gym Maxx CrossWalk 650 (*est. $600) instead.

Best Heavy-Duty Treadmill for Daily Runners
Landice L7 Cardio Trainer
TreadmillDoctor.com and Consumer Reports both subject the Landice L7 Cardio Trainer to expert testing and rank it against other treadmills, but neither provides much information about the model’s features. Runner’s World gets runners to test treadmills, and it provides more detailed test results, but it does not score or rank models. The review at TreadmillSensei.com is longer than the others; it is based on the reviewer’s personal experience with the L7 Cardio Trainer. About.com includes the L7 Cardio Trainer in a list of the best $3,000-and-up treadmills, but it provides almost no information about the treadmills on the list.
If you run on your treadmill every day, experts say the heavy-duty Landice L7 Cardio Trainer) is well worth its relatively high price. Its powerful 4-horsepower motor and inch-thick running deck are built for abuse, reviews say, and you won’t find the L7 Cardio Trainer’s warranty (lifetime frame/parts/wear items, one year labor) on even the best mid-priced treadmills, such as the Sole F80 (*est. $1,500). The L7 Cardio Trainer doesn’t fold up or have that many bells and whistles, but critics are more likely to recommend the more basic L7 Cardio Trainer than any other upscale treadmill. They mostly like the features it does include, such as a wireless chest strap heart rate monitor, which is optional on the less expensive Landice L7 Pro Trainer (*est. $3,000). Another less expensive Landice, the L7 Pro Sports Trainer (*est. $3,000), does include the monitor, but reviews more often recommend the L7 Cardio Trainer with its additional built-in workout programs. More than one review cautions buyers to read the fine print on the Landice warranty, to make sure they don’t do anything to invalidate it.

Best Treadmill for Incline/Decline Training
PaceMaster Platinum Pro VR
We found the best review of the PaceMaster Platinum Pro VR at Runner’s World, which conducts thorough tests of various models. (Since Runner’s World is aimed at serious athletes, it considers treadmills in a higher price range). TreadmillDoctor.com, an online retailer of treadmill accessories, also reviews this model, and we supplemented these analyses with reports from Treadmilltips.com and Bodybuilding.com. Consumer Reports also includes the PaceMaster Platinum Pro VR in its latest roundup of treadmills.
The PaceMaster Platinum Pro VR treadmill is unique in that it features a negative incline (down to a -3 percent grade), helpful for those who want to strengthen the fronts of their legs by simulating downhill running. A wide range of programs includes six “Virtual Reality” courses that automatically adjust the incline along the route. The PaceMaster treadmill has a wide and long 20 by 60-inch belt and a high user weight limit of 400 pounds, so it’s appropriate for heavier individuals. Although there’s a lot of competition in this price range, reviews say the negative incline really sets this model apart. If you are a more occasional runner that doesn’t need the decline feature, you can spend less by considering the Sole F80 (*est. $1,500) or F63 (*est. $1,000), both of which have a 15-percent incline but no decline.

All of the treadmills reviewed above can be purchased at considerable savings from Treadmill Bargains 4U at http://www.treadmillbargains4u.com.

Trucking Break Down Survival Kit

Any trucker will tell you, it?s no fun to be broke down on the side of the road. A road call from a truck shop service truck or a tow by a heavy wrecker can be extremely costly. A truck driver who knows his truck and carries the right supplies may keep a road side break down from turning into a massive road expense.

For a trucker who doesn?t know much about his engine, it?s a good idea to spend some time in the truck shop asking questions if the mechanic seems approachable. Some mechanic shops will run you out but many don?t mind questions so long as you?re trying to learn (as opposed to trying to tell the mechanic how to do his job). Even if you?re engine is under warranty, that warranty won?t do you much good on the side of the road- and any dealership that?s worth it?s salt will let you parts in later as warranty returns.

Knowing how to fix your truck won?t do you much good unless you carry the right parts with you. When you buy your spare parts, you?ll be dropping some cash at the parts counter. But you?ll more than make up for it when the inevitable break down comes. And Murphy?s Law dictates that break down will happen at 5 pm on a Friday when you?re in the middle of nowhere.

Some spare truck parts you?ll want to carry are:

* Serpentine belt, fan belt, etc. Carry a spare belt for every belt that?s on your engine. The belts are cheap, especially compared to a road call. Learn how the belt is run- when a belt comes off you probably won?t be able to see how it winds around the pulleys. You?ll need to know how to work the belt tensioner as well.

* Belt tensioner. If you have a spare belt but your belt tensioner is bad, you?ll be in the same spot as if you didn?t have a belt with you.

* Alternator and Pulley. When you buy a spare alternator, you?ll be paying extra to make up for the core charge. When you have your alternator replaced at a truck shop, you get a discount for the core charge. But when you are buying an alternator to keep as a spare, you?ll be paying extra unless you happen to have an alternator to turn in for the core. The core charge can be up to $200 depending on where you buy your alternator. If possible, buy a remanufactured (reman) alternator- this is an alternator that has been rebuilt. You?ll save a lot of money over buying a newly made one. You?ll need to have the pulley attached to the alternator- if you?re dropping the money on an alternator, most shops will put the pulley on for you free of charge- the pulley has to be torqued down to certain specs. Without the pulley, your alternator won?t do you any good.

* Air Compressor Governor. The governor tells the air compressor when to turn on and when to shut off. Your air compressor can go out, but it?s a lot more difficult to change out. If your governor goes out, however, it?s simple to change out. And without it, you?re air compressor is worthless.

* Tools. You don?t need to have a full set of Snap On tools- but a good set of tools, including a half inch drive ratchet, is a good idea. You?ll want a quality half inch drive socket set and a set of open-ended/box-ended wrenches. No offense to the truck stop brands, but you?ll probably want to buy your tools from a reputable hardware store. Cheap tools break.

Don?t forget to buy your spare parts in a state that allows truckers tax exempt status.

Having the right spare parts for your truck and knowing how to replace them saves truckers time and money. This is on open-ended subject. Comments about other spare parts or suggestions about the spare parts mentioned are welcome.

Accidents Hurt, Safety Doesn’t

The leading cause of deaths in vehicular accidents is seat belt misuse or disuse. Wearing a seat belt properly means having both straps fit snugly around your body. This enables the transfer of the impact from the collision to parts of your body. Your hipbone and shoulder bone can then take the force. Thus, a properly worn seat belt greatly reduces the risk of head or body trauma.

Reports indicate that around 40,000 people die in car accidents each year with people under 35 yrs old as prime casualty. Because of this, Honda has further extended its commitment in protecting you and your passengers. As one of the leading innovators in the automobile industry, Honda has used the most advanced technologies in designing quality parts for its vehicles. You can rest assured that your Honda seat belt is made from only top-of-the-line materials. Not only do Honda seat belts promise safety, they are also engineered to give you comfort.

Unfortunately, there are still many myths regarding seatbelt use. It’s high time that you debunk them for your own safety as well as your passengers. One is that seatbelts may trap the vehicle occupants during collisions. However, Honda seat belts are specifically designed to hold you back from crashing against the steering wheel or the dashboard. And in case you need to get out of the car right away, Honda seat belts have a convenient easy release button. Another myth is that you don’t have to use seat belts anymore as air bags are already enough. While it is true that an air bag contributes to the prevention of injury, it should still be used with a seat belt. Air bags can only increase the effectiveness of seat belts by as much as 40%. They cannot protect the driver from pressure coming from the sides. Honda seat belts, on the other hand, can provide protection for you and your passengers from side impacts. You can avail of this essential safety device for a discounted price only from our site. Remember: accidents hurt, safety doesn’t.

Indoor Rock Climbing – How Rock Climbing Can Help You Chisel Your Physique

It was a humbling moment, indeed.

At the time, I felt like I was higher than a mountain. I was running five miles every morning, laboring through a hard day of strenuous work every day, then hitting the gym every night. I could rip out pushups in three-digit sets, grind through a set of 60 dips without cracking a single sweat gland.

Meanwhile, my strength remained in tact. I was benching, curling, pressing, pulling, and squatting more than ever before. The higher my gains had soared, the lower my body fat percentage would drop. Yes, I was in the best shape of my life.

I bounced off my 15-minute warm-up session on the stepper and was ready to take over this new gym by storm. I had never worked out at this particular facility before but it didn’t matter. At the time, I felt invincible.

On my way over to the Smith machine, I noticed a small gathering in the far corner of the gym. All eyes were focused on the wall where something new, something intriguing had to be whirling up this fuss.

I strutted over to check this out for myself just as a middle-aged man came crashing to the floor, his face purple with exhaustion, his breath caught deep in his gut. He looked like a soldier returning from battle, as he was instantly consoled by his awaiting love.

I peered up at the enemy. Hovering above was the most bizarre piece of fitness equipment I’d ever seen. It was big, it was strange, it was awkward, it was ugly.

It was awesome.

One look at it and I knew exactly what it was. It was a rock-climbing machine. It rested on the floor and nearly extended to the height of the ceiling, a large conveyor belt that rotated on a metal frame. Along the belt was a series of synthetic rocks and grooves, designed to simulate an actual cliff. Along the side was a lever that regulated the speed in which the belt would rotate.

It was aptly named “The Rock.”

Nobody else made a move to tackle this endeavor. Nobody dared. Nobody except me.

The movie “Cliffhanger”, the Sylvester Stallone flick that brought the action genre to new heights, was buzzing across everyone’s lips at the time and no doubt had inspired the gym to purchase such a workout device.

I was feeling a little bit like “Rocky” myself so I emerged from the crowd like the heavyweight champ and bolstered myself atop this machine.

What happened next, I’d rather not divulge.

Let’s just say that three minutes later, the ego, the self esteem, the soaring confidence, it all came crashing down off the wall with me. I sat on the gym in a heap of defeat, my arms and legs completely shot, my heart racing like a Nissan. “The Rock” had knocked me out.

The morale of the story (besides keeping your ego in check) is that rock climbing is one of the most physically challenging exercises you could possible take on. After all, there has to be a reason why professional rock climbers are so lean and healthy.

Rock climbing is an exercise that not only strengthens your legs and upper torso, but it may also be the best method for improving range of motion.

As imposing as my three-minute bout with “The Rock” may sound, the apparatus is actually the ideal way to begin this activity. The resistance of the machine can be set at a very low level for beginners to accustom themselves to the form and motion needed in rock climbing.

You can eventually work your way up to a faster pace, which provides for a sensational workout. I remember feeling a resounding pump throughout my entire body after just a few fast-paced minutes on the machine.

Your battles don’t necessarily end after you’ve conquered the “Rock.” Hundreds of rock climbing gyms have been cropping up across the country and offer the most challenging of programs.

Rock Climbing – A Rocky Experience

Be Aware of Pick Pocketing

Everyone has heard stories of friends and relatives who have had their money or their passport pick-pocketed when they are traveling. You do not need to go far from home, those that pickpocket seem to congregate anywhere there are a lot of people or tourists. They hang around airports, bus and train terminals, museums and any or all tourist attractions. A lot of companies have devised products to keep your valuable safe. Smart travelers use them. They can be the most important of your travel accessories and should always accompany you. There is a type and style that you can be comfortable with and that will remain hidden under your clothing. They are available in many fabrics ranging from cotton to nylon to silk. Many have non-sweat material underneath for comfort. With the large selection available, you really have no excuse to be taken advantage of by a pickpocket.

The most popular models are the money belts. These are worn around the waist and have one or two zippered pockets and some compartments inside. They are adjustable with elastic belts and are meant to go underneath your clothing. These are available in cotton, nylon or silk. Eagle Creek and Easy-go are two of the most popular brands making this important product. They are always available in a natural color so they will not be visible under light colored or thin fabrics. Around the neck women often choose money belts. These have zippered pockets or Velcro pockets and some inner compartments. They are also designed to be worn only underneath clothing. Many of these around the neck styles have an adjustable strap that can be worn short or long. Because the strap locks at any length, you can also wear it around the shoulder or around the waist depending on the type of clothing you are wearing that day. These money belts are small enough to fit in the pocket of your discount luggage and be available when you arrive on your trip.

Now travel socks are available with a hidden zippered pocket for money and passports. The socks are made of machine washable holofiber. These socks can also be packed inside your lightweight luggage and used instead of a traditional money belt when clothing dictates. Other innovative types of travel money belts can clip onto the waistband of your slacks or skirt. The clip will show but the belt itself is under your clothing. There’s also a loop type of money pouch that you slide your belt through. This also flips around underneath your clothing. The traditional belt style with the hidden zipper for money is still around and still very popular. The only drawback on this style is that it will not hold a passport. Passports are a favorite item of pickpockets, so the traditional belt style is usually worn for domestic travel where a passport is not a necessity. This style belt is available in luxurious leathers and also in fabric. From the outside, they look like ordinary belts and cannot be detected.

None of these types of travel money belts can be detected going through security checkpoints, although the one that resembles a regular belt and is worn on the outside will most probably have to be removed because of the buckle. There are no metal parts on the belts designed to be worn under your clothing. As long as you do not put anything with metal into the belt, there is nothing to set off security alarms. These under-the-clothing types of travel belts are not to be confused with the traditional fanny bags worn by men and women. These can be unfortunately pick-pocked. There is a new model fanny bag on the market by Pacsafe that is slash proof, snatch proof and tamper proof. All of these products are popular as corporate gifts and can be imprinted or silk-screened with company names or logos. They are so practical and necessary that they make wonderful gifts for all occasions.
