Volvo’s Strong Selling Point: Safety

The Sweden-based, Ford Motor Company owned Volvo is the world’s best known car manufacturer when it comes to safety, and this can be proven by the company’s lineup of cars which boasts of the most number of safety systems on board. While safety is the main concern of the company in the production of their cars, they are also concerned and are making progress in making their car’s designs look cool. The interior of their cars are also one of the best in the world and that is quite a feat considering they are up against tough competition like the Audi line of vehicles. Performance is not neglected though, this is apparent in the company’s recent use of V8 engines on their Volvo XC90 and S80 models.

While recently released cars have been moving away from the boxy design that Volvo was known for in the past decades, the safety standards implemented by the company are still very much intact. The newly unveiled Volvo C30 is a concrete proof of this – the car is the first outing of the company in the compact luxury car segment and the car’s exterior design is anything but boxy. The emphasis now is in the design but the safety standards are still maintained. Another example is the Volvo S80, while still employing the latest safety systems the interior design is given much attention. The car’s performance is also upgraded due to its new V8 engine and its high performance Volvo S80 parts.

Emphasis may have shifted to the design of the cars being developed by the company but their vehicles still have the best in safety implements. Ever since the company started by introducing the safety cage as a safety feature in 1944, they have carried on the task of making sure that the cars they produce would be safe for the driver and passengers as well. Security research teams have been organized, too, to further increase the number of safety implements that their car will carry. Features like a laminated windscreen, padded dashboard, head restraints, and three-point safety belts, just to name a few, have been common to all cars produced by the company.

The company’s dedication to providing safe cars to the public still continues today, using technological advances to further protect the users of their cars. Standard now on all Volvo models are the anti-lock braking system (ABS), driver and passenger airbags, automatic adjustment of the safety belts, high level brake light, and wide angle door mirrors among many others. Also integrated in recent car models is the Whiplash Protection System which absorbs the impact from rear collision by letting the seat move back with the occupant to protect his or her spine and neck. Another safety feature is SIPS or Side-impact Protection System which is there to protect the occupants in cases of side collisions.

Aside from these, there are a lot more safety features like the Roll Stability Control, the Rollover Protection System for convertibles, Intelligent Driver Information System, Blindspot Information System – which alerts the driver if anything has entered his blindspot, and the Collision Warning with Brake Support – which not only alerts the driver if he is about to collide with a car in front but also primes the brake for immediate deployment. Other recent features developed and being employed by the manufacturer on their car are the Adaptive Cruise Control System which maintains a set distance from the car in the front as well as the Park Assist system which uses cameras that help drivers park their car safely.

Accidents Hurt, Safety Doesn’t

The leading cause of deaths in vehicular accidents is seat belt misuse or disuse. Wearing a seat belt properly means having both straps fit snugly around your body. This enables the transfer of the impact from the collision to parts of your body. Your hipbone and shoulder bone can then take the force. Thus, a properly worn seat belt greatly reduces the risk of head or body trauma.

Reports indicate that around 40,000 people die in car accidents each year with people under 35 yrs old as prime casualty. Because of this, Honda has further extended its commitment in protecting you and your passengers. As one of the leading innovators in the automobile industry, Honda has used the most advanced technologies in designing quality parts for its vehicles. You can rest assured that your Honda seat belt is made from only top-of-the-line materials. Not only do Honda seat belts promise safety, they are also engineered to give you comfort.

Unfortunately, there are still many myths regarding seatbelt use. It’s high time that you debunk them for your own safety as well as your passengers. One is that seatbelts may trap the vehicle occupants during collisions. However, Honda seat belts are specifically designed to hold you back from crashing against the steering wheel or the dashboard. And in case you need to get out of the car right away, Honda seat belts have a convenient easy release button. Another myth is that you don’t have to use seat belts anymore as air bags are already enough. While it is true that an air bag contributes to the prevention of injury, it should still be used with a seat belt. Air bags can only increase the effectiveness of seat belts by as much as 40%. They cannot protect the driver from pressure coming from the sides. Honda seat belts, on the other hand, can provide protection for you and your passengers from side impacts. You can avail of this essential safety device for a discounted price only from our site. Remember: accidents hurt, safety doesn’t.

Eddie Bauer High Back Booster Seat Eases Parent Worries About Safety

The Eddie Bauer High Back Booster Seat is one of the newest additions to the Eddie Bauer collection of baby gear. When you are looking for comfort and safety, this booster seat is one of the best on the market. It will keep your child safe from their toddler years until they are old enough to use a traditional seat belt. As your child grows, the versatility of this seat allows the parent to offer different sitting options to provide the child to ride in the most comfortable and safe, age appropriate arrangement. This booster seat is front facing, allowing the child to see where they’re going and allowing the parent to take a quick look back or in the rear view mirror to make sure the child is okay.

Not only does the parent have the versatility of changing the positions for growth with the Eddie Bauer High Back Booster Seat, but they also have to option to put the seat in three different reclining positions so that their child can be more comfortable or can be settled in for a nap as the family takes a drive. The seat is easily positioned because it is belt-positioned by the car’s seat belt to make sure that the seat is secure no matter what position the parent chooses. This booster seat is a natural sleeping aid as the padding gives the child a comfortable positioning for napping and lets the normal motion of the car helps your child drift off to sleep in more comfort than traditional car seats.

Another safety feature of the Eddie Bauer High Back Booster Car Seat is a five point harness system. The five point harness system insures that your child will stay properly positioned in the seat during the normal operation of the vehicle and even in extreme conditions such as rough roads, sudden stops, and even the most extreme condition, accidents. The parent does not have to rethread belts or use complex strapping systems. The quick fit harness allows the parent to adjust the height of the booster seat from the front without having to maneuver impossible angles in the small confines of the back seat area. Simply twist, pull, and adjust and the child is ready to go. No longer does the parent have to preplan their car trip because the adjustment of the seat takes so long to accomplish.

As previously mentioned, the Eddie Bauer High Back Booster Car Seat has padding that allows for a comfortable ride. The padding is listed as deluxe because extra care has been planned so that the natural anatomy of the child is considered. The padding will adjust to the child’s weight and height and even adjust as the child grows. Parents do not have to worry about sore muscles or chaffed skin and most will probably want the same padding for their personal adult car seats.

So if you’re shopping for a booster car seat and you are looking for a seat that can be used again and again, then the Eddie Bauer High Back Booster Car Seat is one that most parents can agree upon.

Defensive Driving Tips: Seat Belt Safety Facts

Defensive driving techniques are not restricted to technical driving skills and tactics. One of the simplest and most effective defensive driving techniques to protect yourself as a driver or a passenger is to ALWAYS wear a seat belt. It is well proven that seat belts save lives, and drivers should learn all they can about seat belt safety facts.

Research has shown that vehicle occupants have a 40 percent better chance of surviving a crash if they are wearing a seat belt (this statistic is dependent upon the severity of the crash – some crashes are so severe that survival is impossible). However, in many crashes seat belts play a major role in reducing injuries. Each year around 20 per cent of all road fatalities were people not wearing a restraint. Hundreds of other people are disabled for life in road accidents where they were not wearing a seat belt.

SEAT BELT SAFETY FACT #1

Seat belts protect drivers and passengers in a number of ways, such as:

1. Decreasing the time it takes an occupant to come to a stop upon impact
2. Minimizing a person’s contact with the interior of the vehicle
3. Spreading the force of the impact over a greater area of the body
4. Preventing ejection from the vehicle.

SEAT BELT SAFETY FACT #2

If you are the driver, before the car starts moving you need to make sure of the following:

1. Your own seat belt is properly fastened and adjusted to fit firmly
2. Your passengers’ seat belts are properly fastened and adjusted firmly
3. Children traveling in the car are properly restrained.

If you are a passenger, before the car starts moving make sure you have:

1. Properly fastened and adjusted your seat belt
2. Encourage the driver and other passengers to buckle up.

SEAT BELT SAFETY FACT #3

Being pregnant is no reason not to wear a seat belt. Wearing a seat belt means you are protecting both yourself and your unborn baby if you are involved in a crash. Here are a few tips for comfortably and correctly wearing a seat belt whilst pregnant:

1. Place the lap sash part of the belt under the baby bulge, as low as possible. The lap part of the seat belt should sit over the upper thighs, not across the bulge.

2. It is often possible to adjust the angle of the seat belt by using a seat belt locator.

3. Make sure the sash part of the belt is in between the breasts.

SEAT BELT SAFETY FACT #4

Children must be restrained in a restraint suited to their size and weight. The restraint must be correctly and securely fitted to the car. In certain cars it is possible to fit an additional lap belt to accommodate a fourth small child in the back seat. Lap belts are not recommended on their own, but are safe if used in conjunction with a properly fitted child harness.

Before moving children from a booster seat into an adult seat belt, certain conditions should be met.

1. The adult seat belt fits correctly. The lap part is low over the pelvis (not the stomach) and the sash does not touch the child’s face or neck and all slack is removed.

2. Lap/sash seat belts offer much greater protection than lap belts. Where possible put your child in a seating position with a lap/sash belt.

3. Children riding in school buses must wear a seat belt if one is available. Only one seat belt per person must be used.

SEAT BELT SAFETY FACT #5

Seat belts must always be kept in good condition. Car owners should check the condition of seatbelts in their vehicle as a standard part of vehicle maintenance routine. The following things should be checked:

1. The seat belts themselves are not twisted, cut or frayed.

2. The buckles are in good working order, engaging and releasing properly.

3. The retractors work properly. The seat belt should pull out smoothly and be fully retracted when not in use.

In many countries, such as Australia, it is illegal not to wear a seat built. By law, every person travelling in a car must wear a seat belt if one is available. Tough penalties apply for those who break the law. More and more countries around the world are embracing this fact, and the message about the importance of “buckling-up” is being spread loud and clear.

Wearing seat belts is clearly one of the easiest defensive driving techniques a driver or passenger can employ, and learning all the seat belt safety facts is the best place to start.

Safety Boots

Introduction

If you are in an industry such as construction or petrochemical plants where there are numerous hazards that can befall your feet it is even more crucial that you choose work boots with reinforced safety toes or steel toes. In an unfortunate accident, safety boots can be priceless, so don’t focus on cost alone. I think that an injured foot is more uncomfortable than a steel toe boot.

Safety boots and safety shoes come in a wide range of styles with different sole units to suit diverse working environments. Safety boots have often focused on the obvious feature, the toe protection. Super safety boots contain a metal plate under the center of the sole, providing extra protection for the foot (if for example you stood hard on an upturned nail, nothing would happen).

Most safety shoes have symbols on the outside, to indicate the protection the shoe offers. For Example no Triangle indicates that there is no toe cap.

Steel Toe Cap

Steel-toe boots (or sometimes safety toe or just safety boots) are durable boots or shoes which have a protective reinforcement in the toe usually combined with a sole plate, which protect the foot from falling objects and punctures from below. Safety footwear now comes in many styles, not just as boots but also as shoes, trainers and clogs.

Most safety boots have a steel toecap which provides 200 joules of toe protection, and also provide full waterproof protection, as well as a variety of sole units to suit a variety of uses. This means the steel toe-cap will withstand the impact of 20kg in weight falling on to the toes from a height of 10m.

The most often required safety feature for boots was heretofore a steel toe, however, today other materials work as well, if not better when you consider the entire scope of protection, weight and comfort. A composite toe is one of the most popular alternatives to the traditional steel toe. An aluminum alloy is another option that is lightweight and just as strong as steel, offering the protection without weight or bulk.

Protection

The most often required safety feature for boots was heretofore a steel toe, however, today other materials work as well, if not better when you consider the entire scope of protection, weight and comfort. A variety of materials are used to achieve the same level of protection required by OSHA, and the thickness of the material can make a boot toe slightly larger, but you won’t be wearing them at a dance or fashion show, so that shouldn’t be as important as the overall benefit.

Leather

Durable, waterproof leather uppers and awesome cushioning. With the use of quality full grain breathable leathers Rossi Boots are able to provide features such as reducing the risk of injury from knife drops and with the correct care improved resistance to water, oils, and fats providing long-term comfort and protection over the life of the boot.

Summary

As I stated Earlier: I think that an injured foot is more uncomfortable than a steel toe boot. Wear safety boots its just not work the risk.
